Teen Summit 1000

The Program

All students who desire to participate in the program are accepted.

Once in the program students are required to attend 9 two-hour educational seminars and travel on 3 field trips. Field trips include tours of African American sites of interest in New York, Baltimore, Chicago, Milwaukee, Washington, D.C., Richmond, Virginia, Detroit and Canada. (Since 1997 approximately 6,000 people toured the Great Blacks in Wax Museum in Baltimore, Maryland with our students).

The students must also participate in 3 fundraising activities and complete 27 monthly educational assignments created by educator, attorney and historian, Dr. Edward Robinson of Philadelphia.  The textbook, titled "African Genesis", is an extension of the work Dr. Robinson has been doing for the past 36 years with regional school systems as a curriculum specialist in African history.  The first class was enrolled in August 1997. Students completing that program traveled to Senegal and Gambia in August 1998.  Students completing the program in 1999 traveled to Ghana and those who completed the program in 2000-2006 traveled to Egypt. Over 1400 students and adults have graduated from the educational program and traveled to the Teen Summit 1000 in Africa.
