Hotep Brother Jabari, Sister Anika, Sister Helen and Brother Ali,

Happy Kwanzaa to you all!

I must apologize for I have neglected to tell you since our return, that your program significantly changed my children's lives.

It was most apparent to us when we went to Parent Teacher Conferences and for the first time since grade school, Nalani's teachers spoke glowingly of her. This was awe inspiring! They each remarked about how much she had matured and grown responsible, confident and focused over the summer. Some even citing the trip to Egypt as having a great effect upon her. {I did not even know that she had told anyone about her trip.} She became the 'Egyptian Ambassador' at school. Teachers were literally in awe over the transformation of Nalani.

My 13 year old, Adam's transformation was still more internal than outward. He is  continually becoming more responsible. He started a service where we live called Teen Assistants. He does laundry and/or errands for those who need it, for a small fee. He also is an apprentice to my acupuncturist and works 2 evenings a week at his office, after school.  Adam is very determined to live in Japan and study their culture. He will become an exchange student in the near future. He wants to own and operate his own business while still a young person and have the financial and time freedom to travel to many countries especially those on the African continent.

Thanks to you: Our children are certain of who they are, and  they see things from more of an African centered perspective. They also know that they have been charged with achieving much, as a result of seeing what our ancestors were blessed to accomplish.

Thank you Brother Ali & Sister Helen for coming up with the concept of the Dzert Club/Teen Summit/African Genesis. You have truly followed in the way of our ancestors, bringing a beacon to shed light on the past so that we may forge ahead on toward a more promising future.  Thank you Brother Jabari and Sister Anika for ensuring our travel and for taking such wonderful care of all of us in the Motherland.
